Waves has the psychology to get you to spend your money mastered!
I have been on a rampage trying to master the art of mixing, but at the same time trying to be disciplined in budgeting my money (yea, good luck with that I tell myself). Now waves has all these great plugins that I do enjoy and some are expensive, others not so much, that are priced in the hundred dollar ranges from $99-$599. Then they offer weekly deals for us to take advantage of (Yikes!).
HERE is the psychological brainwashing part: If the plugins were ALWAYS at a lower price point (say $49 or $99) then we may take our time in buying them or perhaps not see the same value. But since the $499 plugins or the $179 plugins are often 50% off then we "take advantage" and buy it at the sale price before the sale "ends".
Before you know it, you've spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars in small increments within a 2-3 month period. And because you're benefiting a great deal from the plugins you don't realize that you've just spent a months worth of rent on plugins and haven't even mastered the art of mixing yet to the point where maybe you wouldn't need all the plugins. I'm pretty sure if I have mastered the craft then I could possibly get away with native and/or free plugins, but waves just keeps sucking me in with these "deals". All of the promotion, interviews, and tutorials from "award winning" mixers doesn't help me either because I just keep a spending, spending, spending away. I've never been this gullible before. EVER. It's genius, I'll say.
